Well, it's taken me a while to fully feel it! I've said the words Database Marketing at least a thousand times to my clients and in written articles, but they were just words. Build your database! Mail to your database!It's easy to preach it, but even since I began building my majordomo mailing list database for my e-mail newsletter, Marketing Success, which is the only true link I have to telling people what I'm doing, have I finally felt first hand how important it is to build and market to you database!
The rate of return on your database mailings, if you are lucky is 2%. With a qualified list of people on your database, your return rate should be 8-10%. When that is your main source of marketing, every name you add to that list is gold. Every name is a "warm" prospect that has had some direct contact with you and is aware of who you are and what you do. That beats buying a cold mailing list anyday!
How can you get those names?
If you hold a seminar or workshop, get business cards! If you sell products, get the names and addresses of your buyers! If you write articles, have something free that can be requested so that you can get the name and address when they inquire! If you have a web site, create an offering that will capture names and e-mail addresses! If you are superb at networking, make a goal to meet at least 5 new business acquaintances at every function! If you e-mail a newsletter, encourage people to pass it along so that you can develop new subscribers! If you are a member of an on-line newsgroup, develop relationships and addresses that way!
Your ability to gain clients and create a successful business for yourself is in direct proportion to the number of people that you are in contact with and who is aware of your services! The more people that are on your database, the greater you chances are that there will be interested prospects that will be receptive to your presentation and your services.
