In Part I we focused on following your heart and connecting with your compelling vision and mission, the first two creative rules of success of your entrepreneurial blueprint. These two rules are the core foundation on which to build not only your business but your life. So often they are given fleeting attention only or are not considered at all.

Just imagine you building your dream home on a sandy or grassy ground without the strong foundation and framework that makes it stand up to wind and storms. How will your personal and business foundation stand up to the storms of the competitive and uncertain global business environment? In this article we are going to focus on the creative rules of success 3, 4, 5, and 6 - Setting ecologically sound goals, sharpening your focus, developing a resourceful mindset, playing to your unique strengths and gifts respectively. In Part III - our last article in this series - we will explore and discuss entrepreneurial qualities of successful entrepreneurs.

Creative Rules of Success...

Rule 3: Setting ecologically sound goals.

Goals are targets that give our lives and businesses direction. They are our signposts and framework for decision-making. They direct us to our destination, i.e. realisation of our vision.

As you develop your goals run them through Christopher Howard's "ecological check", which is an assessment of consequences. Simply ask

• Is this goal safe for me, safe for others, and safe for the planet? Or

• Is this outcome good for me, good for others, and good for the planet?

If you can say yes to all these questions then you can be confident that your goals are good goals to set from an ecological standpoint and have the potential for creating win-win situations.

Rule 4: Sharpening your focus.

You can sharpen your focus and keep yourself on track by simply working on your long and medium term goals in three month blocks, i.e. goals that can be accomplished within that timeframe. There i.....
